Brighton and Hove Counselling

Counselling and therapy for individuals and couples in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Hello and thank you for visiting.

My name is Paul and I am a qualified counsellor with extensive experience of helping people who suffer with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, self-harm, relationship difficulties and family conflict.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I offer face-to-face appointments in a safe, private and comfortable therapy room in Hove or Brighton

Speak in Confidence

Counselling is a process where you can speak in confidence to a professional therapist in a safe, non-judgemental space where you will be heard and understood.

I am an integrative counsellor which means that I use elements of different psychotherapeutic approaches to help you explore the issues which are causing you distress.

Some of the things which are troubling you may be painful and upsetting to talk about, but we will explore them together with sensitivity, compassion and without judgement.

Would counselling be right for me?

We often think that we can manage on our own, but there comes a point when we all need to reach out and seek support.

Perhaps you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed or unable to switch off your thoughts. Maybe you are experiencing feelings of sadness, hopelessness and despair. You may be struggling with self doubt or low self esteem, or burdened by painful memories about events in your past. Perhaps you are finding it difficult to manage your emotions or feel like you’re not quite yourself. Whatever you're feeling — you're not alone.

Counselling offers a safe, supportive space where we can explore what’s going on underneath these painful feelings. Together, we can gently uncover what’s been holding you back so that you can find clarity, healing and growth, and begin to feel lighter, stronger and more like yourself again.

How can I find the right therapist?

If you’ve never had counselling before then I know that finding the right therapist can be confusing and intimidating, so it’s important that you take time to find the right therapist for you.

As a first step please click here to send me a message so that we can arrange a free 20-minute telephone consultation where we can find out a little bit more about what difficulties you are experiencing and explore how I can help.

"I had a very positive experience working with Paul on issues around depression, isolation and loneliness. With Paul’s help I learned so much about myself and how I process emotions, enabling me to make real progress which I’m confident will continue going forward. From day 1 Paul really listened, showed real empathy and made me feel incredibly supported.” TC

“I found Paul to be a genuine and authentic listener. He created an emotional and mental space for me to talk comfortably and process events of my life I found troubling previously to work through. That freedom also allowed me to take new perspectives and open new chapters in life for which I have immense gratitude as I look to the future with a more positive outlook." “Invaluable positive experience working with Paul for my anxiety. Paul’s kind, relaxed and open manner made it very easy to express my thoughts and feelings. Really listens with care and knows his stuff.” JD

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will I need?

This depends entirely on what you want and need. In our first session together we can find out more about what's going on for you and what your expectations and goals are. Some clients want and need longer term therapy, and other clients need only 6-12 sessions. Either way you are in control and there is no obligation to stay longer than you want to.

Where would the therapy take place

We would meet each week at a safe and confidential therapy room in Hove.

What happens if I want to cancel?

Consistency and momentum are very important in therapy so it's important that we meet each week except for planned holidays and sickness. However if you need to cancel individual sessions outside of that then you can do so with 48 hours notice. If at any time you would like to stop therapy completely then you can do so with a minimum of one weeks notice, but it's a good idea to avoid stopping therapy suddenly or abruptly if possible so that we can work towards a planned ending.
